The Warburton Football Club was established in 1906, though its early history is somewhat unclear until after World War I. By 1920, the club was thriving and achieved moderate success, but faced financial difficulties in 1928, starting the season with only $2 in credit. Jack Lewis, a notable marathon walker, became involved during this period. From 1928 to 1940, the club consistently performed well, securing two premierships and finishing as runner-up several times. The club went into recess during the war years from 1942 to 1944, and upon reforming in 1945, it won several premierships until 1958. In 1967, faced with challenges of dwindling numbers and finances, Warburton amalgamated with the Millgrove Football Club.

Millgrove Football Club was founded in 1908 and primarily consisted of timber workers. It achieved multiple premierships until 1924 and continued to compete successfully until the outbreak of World War II, after which it reformed in 1946. Millgrove’s last premiership came in 1963, and like Warburton, it struggled with financial issues, leading to the merger.

The Warburton-Millgrove Football Club was formed in 1967, and they experienced mixed success in the years that followed, making finals appearances and winning premierships in 1995 and 2000. The Reserves and Under 17/18 teams also found success with multiple premierships.

In 1981, the Under 17s won a premiership, and by 1983, the senior team was a runner-up. The Warburton-Millgrove Sporting Club Co-Operative was established in 1983 to support the development of a new community facility, which was officially opened on February 25-26, 1989, by the Minister for Youth, Sport & Recreation, Mr. Neil Trezise, recognizing the efforts of the local community and football club.
