Belgrave (3160) is a picturesque town and outer suburb located 36 km east of Melbourne’s central business district, nestled in the scenic foothills of the Dandenong Ranges within the Shire of Yarra Ranges. With a population of 3,894 recorded in the 2021 census, Belgrave is a vibrant community that boasts a rich history dating back to European settlement in 1851.
The area, originally known as “Monbulk,” was later renamed Belgrave in December 1904, inspired by a chapel in Leeds, Yorkshire, brought to Australia by the Benson family. The town is also home to a significant war memorial, honoring the local residents who served in the First and Second World Wars.
