The charred remains of Luigi Marchesi were discovered on his Gruyere farm, located on the outskirts of Lilydale, on December 5, 1935. This chilling tale of retaliation, theft, and murder is one of the grisly crimes explored in a new exhibition by the Lilydale & District Historical Society. The exhibition delves into the darker chapters of the region’s past, shedding light on the complex circumstances and dramatic events that led to various historical murders in the area.
Lilydale and its surrounds may have had a small population, but throughout history, the region has witnessed a surprising number of violent murders—each with its own story to tell.
This year, the Lilydale & District Historical Society presents a new exhibition exploring some of these chilling crimes from different eras.
